Walter

Heinrich Christoph Walter was born in Nidda, Hessen, on 26 April, 1795. Heinrich was married to Katherine Ziunck. He was a farmer in 1870 in the Hempstead area of New York. Katherine was born on 11 December, 1807 and she died on 28 November, 1881. Heinrich died on 3 April, 1890. Heinrich and Katherine are buried at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Elmont New York.

 

Five children the following were listed on Heinrich’s will, dated 20 November, 1890.

 

1: Henry Walter is listed in the will of Henry Christoph Walter dated 20 November, 1890. No other information found for Henry Walter.

 

2: Margarethe (Margaret) Walter was born on 15 March, 1835. Margaret immigrated to America in 1847. She became a citizen on 1 December, 1879. Margaret married Joseph Anton (know as Anthony) Roeckel in c.1856. Anthony was born in Prussia in c.1823. In 1870, Anthony was a farmer in Hempstead, New York. He was working as a truckman in 1880. Margaret died on 24 January, 1921. She is buried at the St. John’s Methodist Church Cemetery, Valley Stream, New York. Anthony died on 15 July, 1885. He is buried in Fosters Meadow, Long Island, New York. Margaret and Anthony had four children together.

 

i: Matilda “Tilly” Roeckel was born in c.1863. Matilda married John Kiefer on 6 August, 1889. John immigrated from Germany to America in 1881. John was born on 18 September, 1862. Census documents list John working as a foreman in a lumber yard from 1910 into the 1920’s. John and Tillie lived in Brooklyn into the late 1920’s. In 1930 they were living in Hempstead in the Bellmore area. John died on 3 October, 1936. Matilda and John had seven children together. 

 

ii: Anna Roeckel was born in June of 1866. Anna lived with her mother until her mother died in 1921. From the 1920’s until her death in 1941, she lived with her sister, Matilda, and her family. Her occupation over the years was listed as housework. Anna died on 9 March, 1941. Anna was never married.

 

iii: Edward Roeckel was born on 1 March, 1870. Edward married Catherine Kieninger on 11 January, 1911, at the St. Matthius Roman Church, Queens, New York. Catherine was born on 18 August, 1890. Edward worked for the city works department as a foreman from 1900 until the 1920’s. The 1930 census had Edward working as a doorman for a picture gallery. Edward died on 22 September, 1943. Catherine died on 14 November 1947. Edward and Catherine are buried at the Saint John Cemetery and Mausoleum, Middle Village, New York. Edward and Catherine had three sons and two daughters.  

 

iv: Frank Roeckel was born in August, 1872. Frank married Dorothy “Dora” Langenauer on 25 June, 1895, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, New York. Dora was born on 1 August, 1873. Frank and Dora were living in the borough of Brooklyn in 1900. Frank was a working as truck driver from 1900 through the 1920’s. From 1920 and later Frank and Dora lived in the borough of Queens in the Ridgewood area. In 1930, Frank worked as porter for a harness manufacturer. Dora died on 5 January, 1934 and she is buried at the Evergreens Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York. Frank and Dora had one daughter, Lillian, born August, 1898. Lillian died before the 1910 census and is not listed on any later censuses. No death information for Frank.

 

3: Peter Walter was born c.1837. Peter married Susan Hendrickson in c.1863. Peter and Susan were living in Rockville Centre, New York, in 1880. Peter was working as a laborer. Peter was working as a Teamster in 1892. In 1900 Peter was working as a contractor and was living in Hempstead, New York. The 1910 census had Peter listed as a trucking boss. Peter died on 21 on September, 1913. Susan Died on 4 on January, 1911. Peter and Susan are both buried at the Rockville Cemetery, Lynwood, New York. They had eight children together.

 

i: Mary L. Walter was born in January, 1865. Mary married John W. McManus in c.1882 in Rockville Centre, New York. John was born in March of 1850 in Ireland. On the 1900 census, John was a machinist for the railroad. John became a boiler maker for the railroad around 1910. He retired from the railroad, as a boiler maker, several years before his death on the 19th of November, 1929. Mary died on 26 March, 1935. Mary and John are buried at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, New York. They had seven sons and one daughter. 

 

ii: Henry Walter was born in c.1866. Date of death unknown. No additional information found.

 

iii: Christopher Walter was born c.1868. Christopher Walter was listed on the 1870 census as being two years old. Christopher Walter is not listed on the 1880 census. Probably died before 1880.

 

iv: Charles Walter was born in c.1872. Charles is only listed on the 1880 census. No additional information found.

 

v: Catherine “Kate” Adella Walter was born in April, 1874. Catherine married Clifton Cornelius Raynor on 1 Jul, 1894. Clifton was born on 11 March, 1875. From the 1900 through the 1930 census documents, Clifton worked at various jobs as a Teamster, produce driver, public truck driver, commissary worker, longshoreman and laborer in wholesale grocery. Catherine died on 24 August, 1933.  Clifton died on 24 May, 1951. Catherine and Clifton are buried at the Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York. They had two sons and two daughters. The first-born son died when he was 11 months old. 

 

vi: Minnie Alice Walter was born on 15 January, 1877. Minnie married Edward Wright Abrams in c.1895. Edward was born on 5 October, 1873. In 1900 Minnie and Edward were living with Edward’s Grandmother in Hempstead, New York. Edward was a teamster from 1910 through 1910. During the 1920’s he was a boilermaker for the railroad and then a truck driver. Edward was working for the sanitation department as a laborer during the 1930’s & 1940’s. Minnie died on 6 November, 1959. Edward died on 5 December, 1956. Minnie and Edward are buried at the Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale, New York. Minnie and Edward had two sons and a daughter. The youngest son died when he was sixteen months old.

 

vii: Frank Walter was born on 23 January, 1880. Frank married Maude Ellen Johnson in December, 1899 at Jamaica, New York. Maude was born on 3 June, 1882. Frank and Maude lived in the Hempstead area of New York. From 1905 to 1915, Frank worked as a day laborer, teamster, and as a contractor. He worked for the street department as a foreman in the 1930’s and 1940’s. In 1950, Frank was a foreman in the caustic department for a chemical company. Frank Walter died on 4 December, 1952. Maude died on 24 September, 1980. Frank and Maude are buried at the Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York. Frank and Maude had eleven children together.

 

viii: Frederick Bishop Walter was born on 22 November, 1882. Frederick married Mary Emma Smith in c.1901. Mary was born on 24 November, 1883. Frederick and Mary lived in the Hempstead area of New York. In 1910 Frederick was a teamster and later in 1920, a driver for a coal company. In 1930 Frederick was doing laundry from his home. Frederick died 12 February, 1943, in Rockville Centre, New York. Mary died on 2 May, 1984. Frederick is buried at the Rockville Cemetery, Lynbrook, New York. Mary is buried at the Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York. Frederick and Mary had one son and two daughters.

 

4: Louis Walter was born on 17 May, 1839. Louis married Mary Ann Victoria Seufert in c.1863. Mary was born on 2 August, 1843. In 1870 and 1880, Louis was a farmer in Jamaica, New York. From 1900 through 1910, Louis was living on Rosedale Avenue in Queens, New York. He was still working as a farmer. Louis died on 12 August,1919. Mary died on 20 May, 1925. Louis and Mary are both buried at the Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York. Louis and Mary had seven children together. 

 

i: Charles Walter was born on 17 April, 1870. Charles married Elizabeth Stiehler on 4 February, 1894, at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Elmont, New York. Elizabeth was born on 25 April, 1873. Charles was an Elder at the St. Paul’s Church. The family lived on Braddock Ave in Bellrose where Charles was a truck farmer. Charles died on 29 July, 1955. Elizabeth died on 24 September, 1965. They are both buried at the St. Paul’s Church Cemetery, Elmont, New York. They had two children together. 

 

ii: Adam Walter was born in c. 1872. His age is eight years old on the 

1880 census. No additional information found.

 

iii: Peter Walter was born on 7 May, 1874. Peter married Rosa Maria 

Elizabeth Hartung on 1 March,1899. Rosa was born on 17 August, 1878. The Reverend R.J. Buttinghausen of the St. Paul’s Presbyterian, Elmont, New York, performed the marriage ceremony. Peter farmed from 1910 until his death in 1930. His farm was located on Rosedale Avenue in Rosedale, New York. Peter died on 20 July, 1930. Rosa died on 15 May, 1963. Peter and Rosa are buried at the Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York.

 

iv: Louise Amelia Walter was born on 24 March, 1876.  Her birth is recorded on the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church baptism register. Louise is not listed on the 1880 census document with her family. No other record found.

 

v: Catherine Walter was born c.1879. Catherine listed on the 1880 census, but no other records were found after 1880.

 

vi: Eleanor “Ella“ Walter (Walther) was born on 19 April, 1881. Eleanor married George L. Klein before 1915. George is listed on Eleanor’s death certificate as her husband. Eleanor is listed as married on the 1915 census, as Eleanor “Cline”, living with her parents. George Klein is not listed. Eleanor died on 31 January, 1937. She is buried at the Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York.

 

vii: Nicholas Chester Walter was born on 28 August, 1883. Nicholas married Catherine A. Wicks on 6 February, 1907. Census documents from the 1910 through the 1930’s had Nicholas was working as a farmer in the Hempstead area of New York. In 1940, Nicholas was working at odd jobs in private homes. Nicholas Walter died in 1960. Catherine died on 29 October, 1970. Nicholas and Catherine are buried at the Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York.

 

5: Charles Walter was born in July, 1843. Charles married Susanna Wenner in c.1863. Susan was born in August, 1843. Census documents had Charles working as a farmer in the Hempstead area of New York, from 1870 until his death in 1918. He was living on Emerson Avenue in North Hempstead in 1910. Charles died in c.1918. Susan died in c.1921. Charles and Susan are buried at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Elmont, New York. Charles and Susan had ten children together. 

 

i: Peter Walter was born on 16 April, 1868. Peter was a farmer on Middle Neck Road in North Hempstead, New York, until his death in 1923. Peter married his first wife, Mary Callahan, on 28 August, 1892. Mary was born on 31 December, 1866. She died on 12 November, 1904. Peter died on 15 July, 1923, at Port Washington, Nassau, New York. Peter and Mary are buried at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Elmont, New York. Peter and Mary had three sons and a daughter.

 

Peter’s second wife was Catherine Golden. They were married on 2 June, 1906. Catherine was born on 3 October, 1872 and died on 17 October, 1918. Peter and Catherine are buried at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Elmont, New York. They had two sons together. 

 

Peter married Adelaide “Addie” Denlea born on 13 January, 1885, as his third wife. Adelaide was the niece of his second wife, Catherine Golden. Peter and Adelaide were married on 29 May 1919. Adelaide died on 13 February, 1978. Adelaide is buried at the St. Patrick Cemetery, Upper Brookville, Nassau, New York. They had no children.

 

ii: Henrietta Walter was born in July, 1869. Her first marriage was to Charles Grain. Charles was born c.1866 and died on 6 February,1908. Charles was a farmer in the Hempstead area of New York. Henrietta and Charles were married on 31 July, 1892, at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Elmont, New York. Henrietta and Charles had one son and one daughter. 

 

Henriette married her second Husband, George Wood on 4 April, 1909. George worked a building contractor. Henriette and George lived in Floral Park, New York. Henriette Wood died on 6 February, 1944. George Wood died on 23 May, 1922. George is buried at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Elmont, New York. No information on Henriette’s death.

iii: Edward Walter was born c.1870. On the 1880 census Edward was ten years old. No additional information found. 

 

iv: Charles Walter was born on 26 January, 1871. Charles married 

Louise Ryf, born on 15 August, 1870. Charles was a farmer in the Hempstead area of New York. Charles died on 12 October, 1918 and was buried on 15 October, 1918. Louise died on 10 February, 1957. Charles and Louise are buried the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Elmont, New York. Charles and Louise had one son and four daughters together.

 

v: Louisa Walter was born in September, 1873. Louisa married Jacob Stattel on 1 March, 1896 at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Elmont, New York. Jacob Stattel was born on 15 August, 1871. On the 1900 census Jacob and Louisa were living in Hempstead. Jacob was working as a teamster. From 1910 through 1940, they were living in Marlboro Township in New Jersey. Jacob was then working as a farmer. Louisa died in 1947 and Jacob died in June of 1955. Louisa and Jacob are buried at the Old Brick Reformed Church Cemetery, Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey. They had one son and one daughter together. 

 

vi: John Walter was born in c.1875. John was 17 years old on the 1892 census. He was living with his parents, Charles, and Susan Walter, and was listed as a farmer. No other information for John was found. 

 

vii: William Walter was born on 4 January, 1878. William married Anna Johanna Holdener on 29 April, 1906. William worked as a farmer in the Hempstead area of New York. William Walter died on 29 November. Anna Walter died on 7 January, 1956. William and Anna are buried at the St. Paul’s Church Cemetery in Elmont, New York. William and Anna had three daughters together.

 

viii: Henry Christopher Walter was born on 15 September, 1882. Henry was listed as a farm laborer on his WWI draft registration. He was listed as self-employed on his WWII draft registration. Henry died on 22 April,1947. Henry is buried at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Elmont, New York. No family was found. 

ix: Jacob Walter was born on 7 September, 1884. Jacob was married to Mary, her maiden name is unknown, in c.1922. Jacob died in c.1962. Mary’s death date unknown. Burial location for Jacob and Mary unknown. 

 

x: Annie Walter was born on 10 August, 1886. In 1920, Anna was living with her brother Jacob and her mother in North Hempstead. No additional information found.
